My LAST Blogspot Blog Post...

As my career continues to develop in ways that I have no control over, I'm am often forced to make changes and adapt to my new set of circumstances.  Most of the time it's money related.  More than not I have to join sites using their "free" tools and can't join the "premium" memberships.   One such site was blogspot.com.  I started using Blogger from Google a few years ago and it's been an awesome tool, though I don't use it to it's potential.  Now that I'm lucky enough to afford my own Derk Jickface website, I'm going to switch to it's blogging platform and leave blogspot behind.

That's the plan anyway.  But things change.  People change.  Interest rates fluctuate.

That being said, this MIGHT end up being my LAST BLOGGER blog post ever....

In high school I used to go by the stage name, Slapmaster D, for the two songs I performed on stage.

For one song, two of my buddies and I performed a satirical version of NWA's "Straight Out Of Compton" for our senior variety show and I recently found an old vcr tape with it.  Before watching I VAGUELY remembered the performance and then realized that we had been drinking 40s out in my car before stepping on stage and blowing up the mics.  I think I might have shared it before but here it anyway below.

Other performers were MC SID  (Brian Anderson) who's dressed in a graduation gown, and Mr. Auto (Chris Peckham)

so I decided to start working on a current version of "Right Next To Brockton" using my good old moniker.

I recently entered a remix contest over at Indaba Music and could win a thousand bucks and a Red Bull Records release if I win the whole thing.  Anything's possible right?

There are a BUNCH of awesome songs though in the competition so I'm not getting my hopes up too high but it feels nice just to hear positive feedback from other musicians and artists around the world.  I've made friends in Germany, Toronto, Rhode Island, Singapore, London and Jupiter already!

38 Birthday Pledges, Wishes and Resolutions

Since my 38th birthday is now over and I did nothing but sleep all day and watch TV in celebration, I figured I'd do something constructive today.  So I wrote the following and, from now on, it shall be used as my mission statement that I will follow for as long as it and I shall live.

The importance of a good night's sleep

I absolutely love sleep.  Ask anyone who knows me and they'll agree that sleeping (and napping) are very dear to me.  If sleeping was a sport, I'd be a gold medalist in the Olympics and THE champion of planet Earth.  I'd even find a way to beat the athletes who try to cheat by entering the sport in a coma, which is technically not sleep... cheaters.

Anyway, since 2010 I had been sleeping on the couch, in a loft bed, outside and even in my bathtub until last week when my parents gave me a real bed as an early birthday gift.  Thanks Mommy and Daddy!

One of my best friends of over 25 years passed away on April 27, 2013.  His name was Sean Hartter.  He was an awesome person.  A ton of my projects inevitably included him and we both had planned to collaborate on a shitload of things together.  Now nothing.... sucks.
